About

Goldfinch Scholars provides personalized coaching for college and graduate school admissions. We work with you to identify your goals, seek out schools that are a right fit, and develop application packages to showcase your authentic self.

We deeply believe in the power of education to transform lives. And we are committed to expanding access to education by supporting individuals to gain entrance to programs and secure funding.

Our focus is on returning, transfer and future graduate students, but we’re always happy to work with current high school students.

We also support scholarship applications, interview preparation, and conversational English practice.

Goldfinch Scholars takes its name from a small yet remarkable bird.

Found throughout North America, from southern Canada to northern Mexico, American goldfinches migrate hundreds of miles per year. In spring, the males shed their olive plumage and become bright yellow with contrasting black and white. Their songs and calls are a varied mix of warbles, whistles and tweets. They are highly acrobatic and have an undulating flight pattern.

We believe that all of these are important traits in successful application packages. We support you through the ups-and-downs, help you find your voice, showcase your best self, and prepare for an extraordinary journey.

Hi. I’m April.

In 2021, I joined the millions of people ready to make a change. It was not an easy decision. After all, I’d spent nearly 20 years building a career in university-level student development and program management. I’d even gone back to school myself to earn a Master’s degree in Higher Ed Policy & Leadership Studies while working and raising a child. Was I really going to say farewell to my professional home, incredible students and trusted colleagues in pursuit of something new? Yes.

Yes, because I was ready to launch a new course.

Throughout my career, I’ve most enjoyed talking with folks about their ideas, their past experiences, their future goals, and - especially - what they want to learn. I’ve also always found satisfaction in editing and helping students improve their writing. But I also noticed that those who came back to school mostly made it on grit and persistence because there are so few resources to guide them. And so I’ve made it my mission to support those individuals. People like you.

I cannot guarantee your acceptance into any program, but I promise I will do everything I can to support you on this journey. Get ready to take flight.
